The Great Canadian Board Game Blitz - Windsor

Have you ever heard of The Great Canadian Board Game Blitz? Don't worry if you hadn't, I had not until recently.

The Great Canadian Board Game Blitz (GCBGB) is a circuit of board game tournaments held at Canadian game conventions and retailers. You play several rounds of games over the span of eight hours, collecting points based on your finishing rank in each game. The finals are held each summer in Toronto at Fan Expo. You can check the schedule below for upcoming events to see if there is a championship near you.

Our very own Deanna will be visiting the one in Windsor, Ontario this Saturday!!

If you are in or near Windsor, Ontario this August 17th, be sure to head over to The Green Bean Cafe.  It is located at 300 Outlette in the Windsor Star.

Even if you aren't so good at some of the games don't worry this is a no elimination, multiple round, board game tournament.  You don't need to know how to play the games, people will be on hand to help teach the rules. The event starts at noon (doors open at 11 am), and goes until 9pm. 

Here is the schedule: 
Round 1 - 1 hour
Round 2 - 1 hour
Round 3 - 1.5 hours
Dinner 1 hour
Round 4 - 1.5 hours
Final Round - 2 hours



Each round players will score points based on their ranking in the game. These points are weighted by the game length (so you get more points for winning a 2 hour game than a 1 hour game). At the end of the event prizes will be awarded based on points earned.

The player with the most points at the end will win a cash prize, and a pass to FanExpo Canada (which I will be writing more about next week!)  They have prizes for other top finishers, and some door prizes as well!
