A couple of years ago for Christmas I bought hubby a Kinect to go with his Xbox. It came with Kinect Adventures!
Kinect Adventures! uses full body motion to allow the player to engage in a variety of minigames, all of which feature jump-in, jump-out multiplayer play. Each minigame lasts about three minutes. While most of the minigames are co-operative in two player mode, Reflex Ridge is a competitive game. The game also supports Xbox Live multiplayer. At many points during the game, Kinect's RGB camera takes photos, which are shown to the player(s) and saved to a storage device. These can then be viewed within the game, with the option of uploading these to a private repository on Kinectshare.com and downloaded to a computer or uploaded to social networking sites.
The object of all the minigames is to get the highest number of adventure pins, which are collected in different ways. Adventure pins earn the player(s) medals which, in story mode, affect progression. Medals can be bronze, silver, gold and platinum, in order from least to most pins needed to acquire each.
As a pack-in game, Kinect Adventures! also contains features which aid users in proper set-up and use of the Kinect sensor.
We found the Kinect was a bit of a pain in our living room as it was not long enough and a bit dark. There was a few times that while using the Kinect, our cat sleeping on the couch actually beat me in a game.... <insert glare face here> :P That is not so good for a competitive persons temper... although my hubby laughing so hard he has to sit down means he was at least amused.
While playing the Kinect Adventures game, we found the games themselves fun, and something the boys could do and would enjoy as well. The thing that we found unique, and kind of hilarious, was the pictures. During game play it would take pictures of you during an action section. The first time we were playing sometimes we would have the most bewildered look on our faces. So the pics after would make you laugh. Then you would still be giggling and start the next mini game. The next pic would be even funnier now because you look bewildered, confused, and laughing really hard.
Overall, we thought it was fun, but felt we needed a bigger space to play it in.
