Lost Games: Beneath a Steel Sky

I have been a long time video game player, and love discovering games I had never heard of before.  Beneath a Steel Sky seems like a really cool game that I would've loved.

Beneath a Steel Sky is a 1994 cyberpunk science-fiction point-and-click adventure game. The game was made available as freeware for PC platforms in 2003.

You are Robert Foster, who was stranded in a wasteland known as "the Gap" as a child and adopted by a group of local Aboriginals, gradually adjusting to his life in the wilderness. After many years, armed security officers arrive, killing the locals and taking Robert back to Union City. He escapes and soon uncovers the corruption which lies at the heart of society.

It is viewed as a cult classic.

Robert Foster lived in peace in a small tribal village until one fateful day. For an unknown reason the Security forces of the great Union City arrived to the village and made Robert come to the city with them. Robert fought back but had no chance against them. But Robert was lucky. Something happened on the helicopter ride back to the city and it crash landed in the middle of the giant city. Robert survived the crash and managed to escape from the security. Now his only goal is to reach the ground level so he can get back to his village. But why was he abducted and who is Robert Overmann?

In Beneath a Steel Sky you take the role of Robert Foster, abducted by brutal Security forces and brought to Union City. Foster's fate is in your hands as he talks to people and explores the area around him in an attempt to discover why he was brought to the City. At the start of the game Foster has escaped from the wreck of the helicopter in which he was kidnapped. Now it is up to you to ensure that he eludes Security in order to discover his past and his destiny. In a place called Union City all of man's social problems are coming to a boil under the claustrophobic lid of a cold steel sky. From the pit of the industrial sector to the spheres where the powerful play - it's Man against Machine, Man against Man, Man against Time. In an urban hell only you can liberate. Maybe.
