How to plan a picture perfect Minecraft birthday party!

Building picture perfect Minecraft party decorations may require you to channel your inner “Creeper”!  When designing your party space, Jennifer Carver, of Spaceships and Laser Beams, encourages you to think “square”, think “green” and draw on elements of the game for inspiration.  Jennifer is sharing some fabulous ideas for bringing the Minecraft game to life at your celebration.

Think square. Minecraft is widely recognizable because of the pixelated, block-like nature of the graphic designs prevalent throughout the game.  When adding décor, think of ways to bring in that square look.  Birthday banners can be made from square shaped pieces of paper.  Place settings can incorporate a square dessert plate layered on top of a square dinner plate.  Square French milk bottles can replace round cups to serve your beverages.  And how about accenting each person’s place at the table by creating cube shaped favor boxes? Decorate the food table by adding square plates topped with square food and desserts.

Think green.  The Minecraft Creeper, with his pixelated green head, is the image that comes into the minds of most people when the game is mentioned.  Replicate the look of this famed creature in a few easy ways.  Create a Creeper face out of square paper plates in mixed shades of green and black to give visual interest to your party space.  Use a black marker to add a Creeper face to green balloons and green refreshment plates.  Hang green crepe paper and cover party tables in green tablecloths.  You can even bring in the green feel by serving green food or drink.

Draw on game elements for inspiration. After only a few minutes of game viewing, it’s easy to come up with a list of party prop and décor ideas.  Cover party walls with faux brick scene setter wall panels.  Display 3-D creeper heads and pick axes made from cardboard boxes.  Bring in the feel of outdoor elements by using faux grass/Astroturf runners or grass mats and incorporating dirt, sticks and rocks where appropriate.  You can even make edible “dirt” by crushing sandwich cookies like Oreos and purchased candy rocks.  Use pretzels rods as edible sticks!  Make easy centerpieces from pails and shovels and add Creeper head centerpiece picks.  Add a personalized look, by making name plates for each place setting by coloring in grid paper in block-style lettering.

Thinking square and green and diving into the game for inspiration will help ensure that you build a party full of awesome Minecraft party decorations!
