Oddball Aeronauts {Review plus Giveaway Info}

I had the chance to try out this game because my husband received a beta copy to review. I enjoyed it too much not to give it a quick mention over here because listen closely here folks This Is A Game For Girls. And do you know why I say this? Because this game has one very nifty quirk, it's small, portable and requires ZERO table space to play. Yep, that's right - You play the entire game in hand without ever needing to set anything down anywhere. A.K.A this is a game that needs to live in my purse so I can pull it out and play it anywhen and anywhere. And since most guys don't carry purses, that means that makes this a game that is ideally suited for those of us that do.

The premise behind Oddball Aeronauts is that you're fighting a duel between airships. It's designed for two players. The physical quality on the beta cards we previewed was fantastic.  I like the art style; anthro-critters with a touch of steampunk. Game play is simple. It's quick to pick up and easy to explain, again making it perfect as a time-filler game.

Let me be clear. This is not my favourite game ever.  There is a high random factor, and middling strategy involved. This is not something I am likely to play at home. However, it is something I would love to have in my bag for those times when you want to kill a minute or thirty.

This is up on Kickstarter right now, with 4 days left to go. It's funded, which means it's definitely going to see print. Which is awesome, right? I'm hoping they manage to get another £7,000 or so in the next four days because if they do they'll hit a stretch goal which will add, among other things, a very cool looking tin to the set. Need I say it again, this needs to live in my purse and a tin to keep it safe in would rock.

You can preorder a set via the kickstarter for £15, which includes free worldwide shipping. (It's a UK kickstarter so the pricing is in pounds). The kickstarter will be ending in four days, on Monday March 3rd at 4pm EST.

AMAZING GIVEAWAY ALERT

And now, for the really nifty part you can win the chance to design the bounty hunter card for the Oddball Aeronauts. Ever want to be immortalized in cardstock? The winner of the giveaway gets to work with Lloyd Ash Pyne, the game's artist, to develop the card art and choose a name for the character that will appear on the card. They will also receive the original artwork to keep and be credited in the rule book as a co-designer of that card.

Is that not pretty much the coolest prize ever? I want to win! I am so bummed out that this giveaway is being hosted on my husband's blog, which exempts me from winning. Argh. But I would love it if one of our readers where to win this. I can't wait to see what the winner cooks up for the Bounty Hunter's name and looks.
