Minecraft Story Mode Review

slide-minecraft

While we are a gaming family, we have managed to avoid the Minecraft addiction that most of my friends kids have been afflicted with.  Hubby and I have felt that the boys don't really enjoy open ended things as well as following a story when it comes to their gaming. So when I was offered the Minecraft Story Mode to check out, I thought it was time we got them into the Minecraft world.

 MinecraftStorymode

Going in,  hubby and I had no frame of reference on the game, and the boys know only bits and pieces about the characters and how to build the objects, since they had never played before.

What we did know was this was going to be a story version, instead of the open ended type of game.

I was out, so hubby set up the game, and let them take turns, and they have played a few times since. The one thing we found hard is that it is a 1 player game. 3 boys, and 1 player game is not always the best combo.  The other thing we realized it is rated E 10+.  While playing we noticed that some of the language was not things we wanted our boys necessarily repeating, but we believe that is why it is aimed at a bit older than the 7, and 5 yr olds that were playing at house.  I know many people will not have a problem with it, but thought it was something you should know about. There was words like "idiot", "moron", and other words and phrases we try to avoid with our boys.

When you start the game you, you are Jesse, and you are embarking on a perilous adventure across the Over world, through the Nether, to the End, and beyond. Along the way, you will be choosing your reaction to what is happening on the screen.

You are not alone on this epic journey you have your friends with you, and you all revere the legendary Order of the Stone: Warrior, Redstone Engineer, Griefer, and Architect; slayers of the Ender Dragon. While at EnderCon in hopes of meeting Gabriel the Warrior, you and your friends discover that something is wrong.

From there, you now have to save the world. Easy, right?

This is a five-part episodic series with the disc including episode one, and grants access to four more episodes as they become available to download. That means you need an internet connection so you can get the next episode.  We didn't even notice this, as we went along, because we have the internet connection, but it is something you need to know if you are going to buy this game.

My boys were playing, and they were given 3 or 4 options of how to react.

They usually picked the angry way as they found that funny.  Thus they made a lot of people angry  along the way.  I like that it came back later where they would need to ask those people for help.  While this might not be the most educational game, I like that it teaches them the natural consequence that if you make people angry by being rude it's going to make life more difficult.

I asked my boys to review this game for me, so we could get their perspective. The 2 younger ones played, so here are their reviews.:

If you are wondering what the game is about....this isn't going to help all that much LOL:

I love Minecraft!  I got to know that there were actually Zombies.   I thought that there were just Creepers.  There was a part that was funny!  It was that my guy said "give me my pig".
Keep up with all the latest from TellTale by following them on Twitter and Facebook.
