One of my favourite games as a kid was the connect 4 style game.  My younger sister and I would play for hours, and try to out-smart each other. 

When I found this life-sized version of the classic ring-dropping game called Junior 4-To-Score by ECR4Kids, I just knew I had to highlight it on the blog.  What a great gift for Christmas, and it would make a great investment for families who through a lot of parties, or have events.  It would make a great purchase for schools as well.

Buggaloop Board Game

Our boys love HEXBUGs!  Like really really love them.  So of course when I saw the Buggaloop game I had to get it for them for Christmas!

Monkey Beach

This year we are giving our boys the Monkey Beach - Children's Game from Ravensburger.  This is a treasure hunting game for your kids! You use your sense of touch to locate the lost loot hidden inside the soft fabric island.

Monkey Beach Overview

Join the quest and help the monkey pirates find the long-lost buried treasure. After inserting all the treasures into the volcano, players take turns selecting a location tile and a treasure tile. Upon their turn each player must now feel for the hidden treasure shapes around the cloth island and guide them out through the beach, waterfall or jungle openings. Twister

When you are a boy mom you should get Twister! Seriously, this is a great game for boys! LOL You know where they will be, it keeps them focused, in one place, and gets some of the energy out.  Plus you work on balance, and activities.


Have you played this newer version?  Hasbro took all the fun of the classic TWISTER, and added 2 more moves! So while you are trying to keep those hands and feet on the mat without falling over beware of the new "AIR" move!  Yeah next thing you know you have a hand in the air, and are falling over!! GAH!

Or what about the other new dreaded move..... Spinner's Choice.  Yeah I say dreaded because you can think of anything you want them to do.  Of course my boys always say "shake your butt" and then laugh until all 3 of them fall over!  You can do any thing that your mind can think of. This can get dangerous!

Retro Twister

I don't think I am old, I really really don't, but sometimes there are things that remind me I am.  Ok today's example is older than me, I promise it is, but it's the version I remember the best (I think we had an old copy)....it's the Retro Series Twister Game.

The boys and I received the latest version previously, and while the boys love it, I missed the one I grew up on.  Yes, I like the new version, but I am a classic girl, so this version is much more my style!

Hasbro wanted to celebrate their 50th birthday this year but opening up the time machine and going way back to 1966! This meant they created the Retro Series, and came out with the 1966 version of the Twister game.  They have several games in the Retro Series currently, and you can find them here.

Twister is the stockin' feet game that will twist you and your friends up in knots. The mat and spinner look like they did when the game first took America by storm! Shake off your shoes, spread out your polka-dot Twister mat, and then grab a partner and get twisted - all over again!

New Skylanders SuperChargers Toys

Summer is on it's way, and with that comes long days of trying to get the kids engaged in things, trying to keep them from losing their minds when it's a rainy day, and report cards.

I don't bribe my kids with getting good grade toys since I use to work my hardest and got a C+, then I would barely try and get a C-.  But my middle son sometimes struggles with being cooperative, and being a good sport.  He said he wants to be a great sport and if he got a super awesome report would I give him something special like a candy LOL So I thought the new Skylanders SuperChargers toys might be a good one to give as a bonus for improvement in those areas.

Since my son really loves racing and video games, this will be a good fit, plus it helps him to work on being a better sport without him realizing it.  I really like having things that are video game related for when we are cooped up inside due to weather in the summer.  Boys get really rowdy when cooped up, so after a while it's nice to say ok go play SuperChargers for a bit.  It gets out some of the energy, but makes it a bit quieter.

THRILLIPEDE

Thrillipede is a war hero with incredible piloting skills… and even more incredible juggling skills.

Thrillipede served in the Millipede Military in the outer regions of Skylands.  As the top pilot in his unit, Thrillipede was responsible for single-handedly blasting over 300 Greeble warships out of the sky!  When the Great Greeble War came to an end, he returned to his hometown of Flutter Bay as a celebrated hero.  He was the talk of the town and everyone wanted to shake the many hands of the famous young pilot.  News of his heroics eventually made their way to Captain Flynn at the Skylander Academy, who set out to determine if the stories were true.  In a series of friendly challenges, the two pilots raced, soared through obstacles, and performed incredible stunts in front of a cheering Flutter Bay crowd.  In each event, Thrillipede stood victorious, and was asked to join the Skylanders shortly after.  Of course, Flynn later admitted that he “let him win” so that Thrillipede wouldn’t be embarrassed in front of his hometown.

BUZZ WING

 

Buzz Wing is Thrillipede’s famous fighter plane.  After heroically blasting over 300 enemy jets in the Great Greeble War, it was put on display in the Millipede Museum.  But with Kaos on the loose again, it’s back in action and ready for more!

Introducing Disney Art Academy

My 9yo fancies himself an artist.  He loves creating projects, and art of all types.  All 3 of my boys love drawing and creating pictures, and books.  They usually use paper, pencils, pencil crayons, and crayons do their art work, but we have been trying to find a app or electronic version of drawing programs.

They want to create more advanced projects, and have started using "paint" to create drawings. 

Leave it to Nintendo and Disney to pair up to create Disney Art Academy that teaches you to draw dozens of Disney and Pixar characters!

The Art academy launched on May 13 for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.  You can use a wide variety of tools to learn to draw more than 80 Disney and Pixar characters in 2D.  There are multiple easy-to-follow lessons, that you can go through at your own pace.  You will than be able to watch characters like Mickey Mouse, Nemo from Disney Pixar Finding Nemo, Elsa from Disney Frozen, Buzz Lightyear from Disney Pixar Toy Story and Simba from Disney The Lion King come to life on your Nintendo 3DS screen.

In Disney Art Academy, Disney and Pixar characters can be sketched or painted in many different ways. Using nine art tools like pastels, paintbrushes or markers, you can discover your inner artist by participating in lessons inspired by Disney art and animation. These art lessons are absolutely intuitive and, most importantly, fun! Each lesson guides you through a step-by-step progression to draw a single character. What starts as a series of lines and shapes will gradually evolve into a familiar character using your new art skills! If you ever want to take a break, lessons can easily be saved to continue from the same spot at a later time.

As your art skills improve and you create more and more Disney and Pixar characters, you may very well want to share your creations with others. That can easily be accomplished directly in the game by connecting to the Internet and sharing through Miiverse or social media via Image Share.

There is also a free paint mode that you can create your own creations in!
