Any Star Trek fans out there? Ever wanted to join Starfleet? #StarfleetOTT

The month Star Fleet is setting up base in Ottawa at the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum with a little something that should geek out Star Trek fans across the universe, The Starfleet Academy Experience.

It's not too often you see a museum FAQ that reads "Role-playing and cosplay are welcome!" 

I was in Ottawa last week and it was killing me that this doesn't launch until the 13th. I mean, who wouldn't want to spend an afternoon pretending to be a Starfleet recruit? This exhibit is all about that magical point where real life science meets one of pop culture's favourite sci-fi settings.

The Star Fleet Academy Experience will be taking place in the Canada Aviation and Space Museum's Reserve Hangar. It's a massive set up, laid out over a 10,000 sq. ft. space and designed to take about sixty minutes to experience (though I've got to tell you, personally I could see spending way more than an hour).

The spiel on the website reads something like this:

For the first-time ever, fans can attend the legendary Starfleet Academy:

* Complete language, medicine, engineering, navigation, command and science training sessions
* Attempt the infamous Kobayashi Maru scenario
* Learn the Starfleet branch that’s best for you
* Take command of a Starfleet bridge

"As recruits at a Starfleet Academy Career Day, visitors will learn about the science behind Star Trek and its influence on emerging technologies — such as a functional tricorder, NASA’s warp drive theory, lasers, teleporters and more."

Awesome, right? Anyone else dying to check out this exhibit? The Star Fleet Experience will be in Ottawa until Sept.5th. After that it will be launching off onto a North American tour (I haven't seen any word yet as to what other cities the exhibit will be landing in).

Con Season is coming! Be Ready With Con Favourite Costumes #Giveaway

It is coming up to Con Season!! Woot! Our very own Deanna is heading to Origins Game Fair this year, and I am on the look out for local cons so I can check them out.

Depending on the convention you go to, you may need to dress up, and in any variety of costumes.   Do you know that my friends at Costume Supercenter have a costumes of every variety??

Need to be a Jedi?  What about Vader?  They got you covered in their Star Wars section!  Just search for Star Wars.  They have kids and adult costumes.

Of course they have Star Trek Costumes, which is what I tried out.

I went with a Uhara dress.  They had the sexy version...but I've had 3 kids, and pale legs so ...I stuck with the Classic Red Dress.  They have accessories such as the boots, wig, and of course the must have phaser! 

I just went with the main costume.  I found shipping and ordering fast from this company (and have actually shopped from them at Christmas in an emergency costume situation and found the costume got here super fast then too!).  The costume itself is good quality, and was cute and fun!

If I was prepping for a conference I would get the phaser too of course!

The costume was a decent fit, although it did stick to my belly a bit :S  If your belly is your problem area...I would suggest control top ladies!  LOL  Other than that I really liked this costume.  Here is hubby and I being a little silly trying it out.




The insignia is embroidered on, so not a cheesy stuck on thing like a badge.  Very nice touch.
